Get Started with Microsoft Imagine Competitions

Use your imagination and passion to create a technology solution in one of our competitions or challenges. Here's how to sign up, pick a competition, and get started on your project!

  1. Register for a competition

    Head over to the Imagine Cup page to find a competition that's right for you. Click on any of the competitions to learn more and click 'Register Now!' to sign up!

  2. View your teams, contests and local country information from your Account page

    Head over to your Imagine Account page for all your details! View the status of your contests, manage your teams and check out local updates and news for your country.

  3. Imagine Cup participants are required to create or join a team

    You and your team will make an original technology project from start to finish: come up with a great idea, make a plan, build your project, and submit it! Imagine Cup teams are made of up to three eligible students. You can create a team from your profile page. If a friend creates a team, they can invite you and a notification will show up in your account.

    You can submit and check the status of your entry for any of our contests from your Account page.

What’s new with Imagine Cup?

We’ve made some big changes to Imagine Cup to celebrate the 15th anniversary! Here is a quick summary, please read the official Rules and Regulations for all the details:

  1. $100,000 prize for the winning team
  2. All technology projects are welcome, no longer bound by categories
  3. Maximum three (3) members per team
  4. Azure is required for all projects (Get Azure for Students or Visual Studio Dev Essentials)
  5. Technology will be the primary judging criteria

Where does it all happen?

Imagine Cup National Finals competitions happen in dozens of countries all over the world. Organized by Microsoft subsidiaries in those countries, the National Finals select the best teams from each participating country to move on to World Finals. Please visit your Account page for local updates and news for your country. The 2017 World Finals location will be announced at a later date.

What can we win?

That depends on the contest, but the first-place team in the Imagine Cup wins $100,000 and all World Finalist teams win a trip to World Finals!
